| I thought this was very interesting.
Let’s talk about religion then. It seems to be a big part of you life, at least in your upbringing. Songs like My Wicked Heart come across as very emotional and private, making the listener almost feel like a Peeping Tom when going through the lyrics… …well that’s what I’m doing *grins* Do you think America today is religious, but without faith? (ponders) Because when you look at all these shows, from Oscar speeches to Ricky Lake, where people thank God and refer to religion constantly, almost making it a lifestyle without perhaps necessary believing in it… (long pause pondering) …I can see why you got the job for these magazines… Yeah, but you’re often bashing on religion as an institution, while pure faith with people crying out to the Lord, or Father, as in a direct connection seems to be another issue for you. Correct…religion is an institution. If you look at everything what the Christ said, it’s less than two hours of dialogue, but yet we end up world wide with over 1300 different versions of Christianity. How do you get 1300 different opinions out of two hours of dialogue? You know, we have Luther, Prespetarians, Baptism, Methodists, Seventh-day Adventist, Mormons, I mean the list goes on within that blanket, or under that umbrella. ©
How about yourself? Lot of your songs hold questions, a search and doubt. Are you Doubting Thomas today, or a man of faith? I left the church because I was mad at God and I was becoming institutionalised and didn’t know it. There were questions I was asking and I couldn’t get the answers that I wanted. I went for twenty years where I thought I was mad at God until I realised one day that I wasn’t mad at God…I was mad at Man! You know, for these 1300 different versions of the gospel of according to who ever you were listening to… And I’ve said since then that God didn’t leave me, I left God. I’ve come back around now where my faith…(stops) I don’t like to talk about it a lot because I don’t want to influence anybody, because I don’t want to be hypocritical like I’ve accused some of these other organised religions of being. What I try to encourage people to do is, if you want to know what’s being said in there, go read for yourself. Take like the song Heaven’s Blessed. First time I read it, I was thinking, man, this is almost a creed. Then I started reading more, and I wasn’t sure if it was hypocritical from someone else’s point of view. What is the song about, what’s the meaning of it? It’s precisely what it says. I’ve never been refused anything I’ve ever asked for… …and who is the person portrayed saying that? That’s me saying that. You know, if that is you saying that, it should be almost like a creed for you, saying thank you for everything. That’s precisely what I am doing. I felt it was about time to pay some respect…and again, I don’t want to preach to anybody about what they should, or shouldn’t do, but my whole life has been so stupid. I’ve been blessed beyond comprehension…I’ve lived four or five of somebody else’s lifetimes. It’s just…you know when I was talking about getting up and putting your shoes on and the shoes do the walking and it’s almost as if I’m along for the ride…

| hmm,
ive had a distinct view on this for a long time...
religion sucks. there, i said it. dont get me wrong, God ROCKS but do you know how many wars have been waged over religion? its sad!!
i think too often people focus on the cross, as opposed to the crucifix, sounds wierd huh? let me explain...
religion is the cross (this is 100% my opinion) its the weekly gathering on sunday, the donuts and coffee after mass, service--whatever you call it, its vbs in the summer...
the crucifix is the reason for our faith, the salvation of our souls, and life ever lasting, and medatation on our lord. The actual FOLLOWING of God, as far as im concerned, organized religion blows
(excuse the termanology, its all that comes to mind at the moment ><) _________________ hakuna matatta. |

| there is a lot of tradition in the catholic church, if you are reffering to the after service rituals, there arent as many, but during the mass, its 100% bible-based tradition, but in my opinion, its not all necessary.... _________________ hakuna matatta. |

No, I just meant the ritual stuff in general in all denominations...religion as you call it. I agree with you, none of it is necessary for salvation, but some people are comforted by it. _________________ peace and grace,

| Victor that's a very mature attitude for you to have already. And I mean that in a totally good way. You rock! And I totally agree with Gary about separating truth from tradition. _________________ Life and death, energy and peace. If I stop today it was still worth it. | i cant find a church that doent have a " tradition" i think that churches need to be open to ideas, i mean if you did the same thing over and over again then it get boring and ppl start to loos intrest, like for instence if you hear the same songs over and over then you are going to get tiared of them. see thats what i am saying if you do the same things again and again then you are just going to loose ppl. am i making any sence? and i cant spell ether so that makes it hard. _________________ Perfection: To never see it snow, or ever feel the rain again, To never be in love, or having to explain again, To not have to cover my face so you won't see my pain, that would be perfection. |

| well....
if you are truly interested in salvation, it wont get boring. this is often what (and no offense to anyone here!) baptist churches do, there is a church down the road from mine and we call it "the bigg B" cuz its got a medium sized chapel but its HUGE! filled with basket ball courts and a gym and a few confrence rooms, it just goes on and on!
and not long ago the pastor dressed up in a houla skirt and played a mandolin.....this is going too far. lol
basicly what im saying is there needs to be a balance. _________________ hakuna matatta. |

| I think God himself is fed up with "religion". Christians are some of the most miserable, intolerant people I know. Legislating morality, hating "the lost", whether they be Wiccans or Gay, we are stuck in one big facade. It's a joke. Don't be ashamed for being down on religion. It's failed. It's about relationship. Nothing else works. Religion is man's flesh trying to work everything out. Relationship forces one to walk in the spirit and rely on God's reasoning and not one's flesh. _________________ 'No one can take away the blood that covers over my fall Without the blood of perfect life I know I’m nothing at all..." -Demon Hunter
