| You called it a "stupid thing to do".
| Quote: | | ....is that so egregious? |
Well, that depends - do you feel it would be egregious to impose YOUR desire on someone who feels the exact opposite of you, thus causing them great distress to go against their beliefs?
When I have our vegan friends over for dinner, I don't serve chicken to them even though it would be soooooo much more simple and easy for me to make a "normal" meal - at least "normal" in my eyes.
My son has a good, good friend that is Catholic. As they were in their teen years and did the sleepover thing often, I wondered why he would never eat the meat I served when he stayed over on Friday nights. I knew the kid LOVED meat (his favorite pizza was Meat Lovers from Pizza Hut) so finally I asked. Turns out Catholics don't eat meat on Fridays! To me, how strange is that to choose only ONE day a week to not eat meat! Weird to me; very, very important to him. Not that I tried to impose my will on him, but he would not budge on his beliefs - no biggie, I adjusted my menu whenever he spent the night on Fridays again.
Just because it's a "simple" thing in your eyes doesn't mean it's simple to them.

Sure, but does anyone respect mine? |
We have disagreed with you, but we have NEVER called your beliefs "stupid", "supertitious nonsense", "enslaving to fear and guilt" and "a bunch of hog wash" - and those are quotes just from THIS thread alone! In fact, go through all the posts - you won't find anything negative ever said to you about your beliefs, yet your words show only a belittleing and profound LACK of respect for our beliefs. You have been with us for quite some time, Mark, and you and your opinions are welcome here, but I do think it's high time you stopped with the negative somments on our beliefs. _________________ "Who among the gods is like you, O LORD ? | | You are totaly missing what I said, it is stupid to say that the christian faith does not allow for the celebration of Halloween, it does not, these are personal convictions and rules made up by over pious induviduals. What I thought was really stupid was the couple who couldn't even have candy on hand for kids who come to their door, how gracious is that? |

| No, I am not missing what you said - YOU are calling their beliefs, and mine, "stupid". That's YOUR opinion.
You may consider your opinion to be of a general belief, and others may agree with you, but it is still only YOUR opinion.
Remember, I do the exact same thing every Halloween, so according to your opinion, my acts are "stupid". However, I think it's ingracious of you to expect me to go against my beliefs to satisfy your sense of politeness to children. _________________ "Who among the gods is like you, O LORD ? | What are those "beliefs" based on, it certainly is not the bible? Yes, I think it is stupid to think it would be sinful or an afront to God to pass out candy to children who come to your door on Halloween, would this not be an opportunity to show the graciousness of the christian? Believe whatever you like, but don't tell me those beliefs are exegeted from scripture, they are not. Perhaps next Halloween you could put some garlic on your door to keep the evil trick or treaters away! |

See.... you are still trying to impose YOUR will and beliefs on me. How about you just shake your head at this "stupid" Christian and let me live my faith without you telling me how my thinking is "stupid"?
Are you even capable of ACCEPTING this difference in our faiths, and do it without resorting to name-calling and sarcasm? _________________ "Who among the gods is like you, O LORD ? Who is like you— majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?" Exodus 15:11

| I don't think your stupid, quite the contrary, youv'e shown your intellegence elsewhere, this matter is not a difference in faith, it is difference of the understanding of faith. Case in point, some years ago at church I told a friend of mine that I was taking my son out trick or treating, he said I shouldn't be celebrating a satanic holiday. I said are you serious? He said don't come crying to me when your son is involved in satanism later in life, I asked my friend the doctor, how can you a man of such intellect, be so brain dead in this matter?!!
No one has, or ever will be turned into a satanist from trick ot treating!
This is not your faith we're talking about, it is superstitous beliefs that have nothing to do w/faith in Christ or His Word. |

| If you would like to take this line of reasoning further, perhaps you should no longer celebrate Christmas, if you do, does not this holiday have it roots in paganism? Perhaps God takes issue w/ the birth of His Son being associated w/the winter solstice! |

As so judged and pronounced by you.... however, I believe differently. It is ALL about MY faith and MY beliefs. Which, last I checked, I am allowed to believe differently than you, without having to justify them to you.
And this is EXACTLY what I'm talking about - you are imposing YOUR will, YOUR beliefs as THE absolute definitions.

And you keep going on and on, talking about what I should or shouldn't do, based on YOUR thinking...... geez, you must be powered by Energizer batteries! _________________ "Who among the gods is like you, O LORD ? Well, no, I am definitely not eclectic in my faith at all - I am a Bible-believing Christian in a fairly traditional sense. I just have studied a great deal over the years since I got saved as a little hippie Christian waaaaay back in 1972.
Peace, baby.... through Christ. _________________ "Who among the gods is like you, O LORD ? Who is like you— majestic in holiness, awesome in glory, working wonders?" Exodus 15:11

Ergo, you are eclectic, as are all Protestants. |
