PostSubject: The Lakeland Revival and the Guy With All the Tattoos.   Fri May 09, 2008 12:54 am

(*takes a deep breath*)

Well, here's one that should be another huge honkin stinkin thread that ends with a "let's all agree to disagree" statement by Marcia.

LOL

Have you guys heard anything about this yet?

Apparently, there's some big revival going on in Lakeland Florida. One of my young adults called me, all excited about it. It sounded awesome.

So, I went to GodTV and checked it out a bit. Then, I got on Google, and I Google'd it. I read some excerpts from a website where people were saying Rick Joyner was a heretic. Then I read more where those people condemned the entire Third Wave/Vineyard movement.

So I'm confused.

On the one hand, I'm all into being like this: cheers cheers cheers

....and I believe in the giftings, in healing, in revival, tongues, the fire of the Holy Spirit, etc. You know I do.

On the other hand, I have a healthy dose of skepticism about this for a couple of reasons:

1) The quotes I read from Rick Joyner's books really did sound like false teachings to me.

2) Somehow this is tied into Heritage USA. Isn't that Jim and Tammy Bakker's old place?

So - is this the real deal, or a bunch of rah-rah hoopla?

You can watch it on YouTube or GodTV and then let me know.

Also somehow the Elijah List and Kim Clement has something to do with this but I don't know enough about him yet except that he says he's a prophet.

To some, it will be the real deal, and to others it will be crapola hoopla. And each group will SWEAR that God gave them revelation on their truth - that's the fickleness of people.

tongue

I don't know if, or how, it ties in, but Rick Joyner and Co. (actually called MorningStar Ministries) bought the old Heritage USA place four years ago, and turned into quite a beautiful place of ministry. It's about 20 minutes south of Charlotte just over the border into SC.

I think that depending on who you are and what 'church' you follow you will see anyone who believes differently from you as not speaking the real truth.
some christians see catholics as wrong, some baptists see all non-babtists as wrong, the list goes on and on
I personally think that anyone who is sowing the seeds of faith can't be all wrong. If someone gets someone else intereted in religion and actually wanting to pick up a Bible and learn more, that's a good thing no matter what.

My buddy lives in Florida and I spoke with him last night. He was very excited about this. I had not heard of it yet. I also googled it. I spent the first 5 years of my walk in the charasmatic church, so none of this if foreign to me. I believe God can do anything, but I am very cautious about things like this and always try to look at the fruit. Not to mention the fact that when I went to this Todd Bentley's website, the first thing I saw was big banners to "partner" with him, yes for only 30, 80 or 500 dollars a month, you can join in this revival.
If you study church history, you will see true revival is always accompanied with mass repentance.

The bible says:

Colossians 2:8, 18-19
8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the basic principles of this world rather than on Christ. 18 Do not let anyone who delights in false humility and the worship of angels disqualify you for the prize.
Such a person goes into great detail about what he has seen, and his unspiritual mind puffs him up with idle notions. 19 He has lost connection with the Head, from whom the whole body, supported and held together by its ligaments and sinews, grows as God causes it to grow.

I also found an interesting blog about this, I mostly agree with what this dude says...

.........yeah.

But no no no no no. It can't be "true to some and not true to others". We can't let ourselves slide down that slippery slope. Truth is truth, man. I'm sorry but it's either true or it's not. Something can't be truth to someone and a lie to someone else, otherwise it's not really truth.

It either IS a true revival........or it's not.

....and that's what I'm trying to find out.

Sometimes when people are desperate enough they'll believe anything, the sad thing is these false prophets have no healing balm to help them.

Yeah I'm pretty convinced that this is pretty flaky now. But if you go back to Pastor Bob's blog I like what he has to say NOW - even better than before. We have to be really careful judging others and being overzealous. We really need to be praying for these people, that if it isn't a true revival - that it becomes one.

Well, I believe to be true what Pastor Bob said. Revival begins in OUR OWN hearts ya know? The Jesus Movement days were amazing and how I wished I could of been right in the middle of them, but the Word Of God says that when the Son of God returns it will be as the days of Noah...Churches, REAL CHURCHES will get smaller and smaller Tonnie. That's why I've stuck to home groups! As far as heretics go, geesh...you have to follow your own heart on that. I speak of Dale Thompson A LOT...Heck, my OWN Pastor (Greg) they BOTH are called heretics on a DAILY basis, but I know in my HEART what is truth. You have to seek the Lord God in prayer for Him to reveal what is truth Tonnie. Don't cont on ANYBODY to EVER do it for you.

Ive been flipping over to GodTv the last few nights and everynight it just gets flakier and flakier. Last night Bentley was on a tirade and it was all about "I" "I" "I".

"I'm" going to preach here and "I'm" going to go to Africa to do this. He was just screaming it. Everytime I watch all I see is "sights and wonders" type stuff. I have yet to really hear anyone involved preach about repentance. I mean really preach it! They just keep pulling people up on the stage and blowing on them and saying "Shaka maka!"

Im asking the Lord to let me know if HIS spirit is involved in Lakeland and I feel like Im getting a 50/50 split.

I know God is bigger than Bentley and anything false teachings he may have and yet there are and will be people who are truley touched by God and that is what I pray for. That the Holy Spirit will indeed reach people.

that's what I'm saying. I mean I can't support a lot of over the top preachers and whatnot but it's all about the seeds you plant.
I mean yeah there's a point where you get into the grey area of being a heretic but as long as you can lead some people into the light - right? or am I wrong?

I saw a video where he told people that he was told by God to punch a woman in the face because she needed filling of the Holy Spirit. People in the congregation were just totally amazed and were drinking in every word of it. It sounds completely absurd, but this was what he was telling. Now, you have to ask yourself, is this really from God, or does it sound like a bunch of hooey?

Before I get into the actual posting, I have not been waiting
for a controversy to post. The old forums have been coming
up when I access the sanctuary website. Has this happened
to anyone else? In fact, I had to use the link in an old post
to get in here this evening.

Todd Bentley is a fraud....PLEASE just compare ANY of his
teachings against scriptures!

Google Todd Bentley and the Angel Emma.

Search YouTube for Todd Bentley and Stephan Driess.
{Todd gave Stephan the "annointing" with a knee lift
to the chest after Todd patted the knee he was going
to use}...No, I would not believe it either if you told me if I
had not seen the video myself.

I take issue with the concept that people can still get
blessed by fraudelent revivals...How is that possible? God will
not abide nor speak through frauds...In the OT, did someone
still get blessed by the Prophets of Baal?? No, a thousand
times no!!!

If people eat a cupcake filled with strychnine, believing that
the cupcake is still nutritious...guess what?? They are still
being poisoned by the strychnine no matter their "feelings"...

The Lakeland revival and any other churches/teachings that
focus "angels and signs/wonders" is setting up the "Elect"
for the coming apotasy of AntiChrist!

I know that this is a strong statement...but if anyone would
study the Scriptures and hold Bentley's teaching and these
manifestions up to the light of Scripture, you would see that
they are "spiritual strychnine"..

Can we post links to other websites to help with this discussion? I want to be sure it is permissible before I do.

Thank you for asking. Smile The only rule we have about links is that those contrary to the Bible may not be published.

But let me ask you this: What is the point behind publishing even more of his stuff? We are all in a agreement that Todd Bentley is not of God, so why is more of his "movements" needed, or even wanted, for that matter?

We must be careful not to fall into the trap of gossip under the guise of "discussion". That's exactly where the enemy would want us - stuck in "discussion" instead of moving forward into PRAYER for this man to be revealed and his followers to have their eyes opened.

Quote :

Now THIS could be an interesting discussion without Todd Bentley! He is certainly not the first false teacher to grace the face of the earth.

This question becomes CAN God move through a false prophet or DOES He? Is His presence there in the midst of false and phony revivals or not? Can He still manifest Himself to a serious and heartfelt seeker even if that seeker is at a false revival?

I DO BELIEVE God is BIGGER than any fake and will make His truth known to ANYONE ANYWHERE who is TRULY seeking Him. The key would be on the follow up for the seeker and THAT would determine how fast he comes to the truth.

I have more to say, but I've got to get to church early.

Later... Razz

Hey SoI, it may be helpful if you introduced yourself to everyone, at least first name, just as a courtesy, especially if you are going to get into deep discussions. Thanks for pointing out the wrong link, most of us just come directly to this page. I found out our webmasser made some changes and missed that. It should be fixed soon.

To PeaceThroughX - Thanks for the actual address to this forum...It seems to be working...

I was really asking about web links for future reference....I understand about bogging down in "discussion"....I agree you
can get to the point that you are beating a dead horse

{NOTE: NO ACTUAL ANIMAL WAS HARMED OR KILLED IN THE
CREATION OF THIS LITERARY DEVICE KNOWN AS A
METAPHOR..THANK YOU! WE NOW RETURN YOU TO THE
POST!}

I guess, I was the unfortunate one who happened to be the
last one posting on this already discussed topic...

I thought about your question {True Seeker in False
Revival}....hmmm...interesting question...I think that is the
teaching is Biblical but the "messenger" is false ala Jimmy
Swaggart..Taught great Truths, but chose not to live by
them then I think "Yes"... a seeker will find God {so to
speak}...If the teaching is bad {Bentley, Hinn, Brownsville}
and the seeker does not check these teachings against
Scriptures ala the Bereans then no.

I do not say this mean or viciously, but God does hold all of
us accountable weighing teachings against HIS Word the Bible, and it does teach in the Bible that God does/will send
a spiritual delusion to those who do not love/seek the truth
via the Scriptures..."Love/Seek" means that you check out a
teaching or person against what is taught in Scriptures not
just running listening to different teachings and hope that
this is enough..

It really important to understand that it DOES matter what
you believe and your beliefs must be weighed against the
Scriptures...

Again, you brought out some really interesting points and questions...

To RFK - I posted an introduction of myself earlier..Can't remember which forum..

EXACTLY! This is real truth - that's why follow up is so important, even if it's your own through the Bible.

My hunger for the Word and a close relationship with God came through a book by Benny Hinn called "Good Morning, Holy Spirit". I did not know who Benny Hinn was - I had heard a little of him - but the book fascinated me.

What was most fascinating was that I was annoyed by and skipped through the sections of Hinn's life and really studied his revelations on the Holy Spirit and how it's power and strength became so real to him. Forget Benny Hinn, but God used that book to bring me on the beginning levels of a very intimate relationship with Him.

That was 20 years ago, and it has been one sweet journey with God ever since. And I never did put much stock in what poor Benny Hinn had to say.

And, back to your statement, sometimes a person's personal follow up is through boards like this. That's also why it's especially important that we do not get STUCK and we FOLLOW THROUGH and MOVE a thread along. We never know who is watching or reading us besides God Himself.

For some folks, this board IS the follow up and the place to start. Smile

what is your first name? I dont mean to be a jerk, but that was a pretty evasive answer. I read your intro. I think people would be less likely to be on guard with your posts if you were more open about who you are, especially in deep theological discussions. We are all family here, even if we dont always agree with each others viewpoints, we trust each other. My job as Admin is to keep peace here.

For the record, I dont really disagree with the points you make about Todd Bentley, I checked him out myself and heard alot of pride there.

PLEASE don't take this as a smart-aleck/rude question
remark...I am not asking it in that manner but I can not
convey any type of emotion just using text...It is just a
simple question....

What is the deal with first names?

After I read your response wanting {demanding??? Text
is hard to decipher emotionally} my first name for a second
time, I went and scanned few all of the other forums to see
how many people gave their first name...Some did and some
did not...

According to the posting rules, it does not seem to be a
requirement and other posters do not always {or have never
posted their first name..

At some point, I guess I will give my first name. When I join a forum, I
generally go slow about revealing myself...I am just like that....

I AM NOT looking for trouble AT ALL...I just want to hang out {be it anonymously for now}...If I have to give my first name, then I guess
I will have to decide if I want to stay or go...
