| Hi! I'm new here. I really needed some advice on a music related issue. I hope I posted this in the right forum. :p Now that I am able to drive and not depend on others to get around I would like to get out more. BUT, the problem is my Mother doesn't like anything that's not Christian. I would like to go out to concerts and select Goth clubs. Yet, I know that my parents wouldn't approve. I am very selective about the bands I listen to. ESPECIALLY, the secular ones. If I like a secular band it's because their lyrics aren't harmful or degrading. I would never support a band with anti Christian lyrics (or has lyrics that go against what the bible teaches). But because some of the bands I like are "gothic" in appearance or sound my parents wouldn't approve (i.e. the London After Midnight and The Birthday Massacre show I really want to go to). Also, the Goth clubs I am interested in don't appear to be dirty or unsafe. Club Funeral is one club that I have been looking at lately. It plays the music I like. I have a friend that has visited there a few times and he hasn't said anything about the atmosphere being bad. I don't want to have to sneak out to concerts or clubs because I know that would not be honorable. I also don't want to make my parents worry about me, think I'm out doing bad things, and/or being rebellious. I also don't want to sit at home and do nothing but go to school and work. I want to have a bit of good clean fun. *sigh* | |

| Welcome to Sanctuary, Darling! I hope you find solace and friendship here. If you are still living at home, obviously you must respect your mother (and father?). However, in our case, my son TALKED to me about what he was doing and what he liked, and SHOWED me I could trust his judgment becasue of how we raised him. You may be 21, but trust me, your mom does not see you as 21 - I know this for fact! hehehe Show he by your ACTIONS and she will come around, I promise! | |

| welcome, welcome...your avater rocks. i love corpse bride and nightmare before christmas is my all time favorite.
goth clubs are not as bad as some (contary to popular belief) and as far as bands go?
i'd check out these: Flyleaf Evanesence Nightwish
and that's all the secular "goth" music that i can think of that's not anti-bible (just woke up) but there are some great christian goth bands out there, and some greath goth goth bands that are very.....bad..as some would say..but i adore them.

| Perhaps a website like this would be an aid to introducing your mother to the idea that "Christian Goth" is not necessarily an oxymoron. http://www.christiangoth.com/ | |

Show her by your ACTIONS and she will come around, I promise! Thank you for the welcome and advice! In time perhaps with my Mother seeing my actions she will come around. My father is fine with my interests. He actually likes a few of the things I like.

Thanks! I love Tim Burton. I've heard some music by the bands you listed. I'm not a particular fan of them but thanks anyway. Music wise I'm fine. It's just getting my Mother to realize that. :/

| I love LOVE christiangoth.com after all that's where i found this site. This may be a long shot but why don't you look around christiangoth.com and show your mom some of the articles? My parents never accepted my goth-ness or anything about me after the age of 12. But there's lot of reasons for that. | |

| Thank you all for the great advice! I will take a look at christiangoth.com and show my Mom. I'm wondering if I should send it to her in an e-mail or sit down and talk with her about it? | |
